“Not since Anothony Hopkins gave us Hannibal Lecter have we had a murderer with such dinner party appeal” - Los Angeles Times.
Starring Michael C. Hall, Dexter is based around a serial killer who is “as ruthless as he is sympathetic”. Orphaned at the age of four and harbouring a traumatic secret - Dexter is adopted by a police officer who recognizes the young boy’s homicidal tendencies and guides him to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way. As an adult - Dexter is a murderer not without morals. He kills only really bad people. Heinous perpetrators who see themselves as above the law or those who have slipped through the cracks of justice - should expect no mercy.
But outside of that - Dexter is a respected member of the police force - with a career as a blood-spatter analyst, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children.
The premiere of Season 2 finds Dexter in a quandary. After killing his biological brother - the Ice Truck Killer, at the end of last season - Dexter now finds himself unable to kill. He certainly wants to, and in fact needs to. But he is unnerved by feelings he can’t understand. Used to feeling isolated - suddenly his world seems closer. After a close call with death herself - his adoptive sister Officer Debra Morgan (played by Halls real life partner - Jennifer Carpenter) has moved in.
Meanwhile, Dexter’s girlfriend Rita (Julie Benz) is beginning to ask questions about some of his unusual quirks and lifestyle. In Season 2 Dexter’s polished exterior is beginning to crack. The closer scrutiny from loved ones places new pressure on Dexter - pressure that increases as the bodies of Dexter’s victims are discovered and an investigation begins.
On Season 1, Dexter’s body count reached 11. Where will it be by the end of Season 2? Find out Mondays @ 9.30pm.
